"Leading, Educating, and Empowering Others to Live and Lead Purposefully."

Dr. NNeka Allen-Harrison is a San Francisco Bay Area native, educator, researcher, former social service provider, and the co-founder and CEO of Summit Learning Institute. Her work sits at the intersection of education, inspiration, and empowerment, grounded in her Human-Centered Systems Accountability Model.

Drawing on more than 25 years of experience across K-12 and higher education, social services, research, and the nonprofit sector, she helps leaders and organizations think reflectively and strategically about designing systems that expand opportunity, strengthen well-being, and improve long-term outcomes for the communities they serve.

Dr. Allen-Harrison’s work examines how educational systems, workforce conditions, and institutional structures shape individual and community outcomes, with a particular focus on how these systems can either disrupt or reproduce harm. Her research focuses on improving economic outcomes for Black Bay Area workers and on developing actionable strategies to inform policy, practice, and community-based solutions.

She is a proponent of liberatory pedagogy, authentic leadership, empowerment learning, and community empowerment. Her pedagogical practice is informed by educational leadership, critical dialogue, emancipatory knowledge, and strong relationships with local practitioners engaged in social change and community-based work. She has taught, mentored, coached, and consulted with leaders, schools, community-based organizations, and families on topics that help transform systems and improve quality of life.

As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. NNeka’s recent work has focused on helping educators, behavioral health leaders, and community-based practitioners understand the relationship between systemic structures and human-centered accountability. Her work increasingly positions education as a form of behavioral health work, emphasizing that leadership decisions shape the conditions that influence safety, belonging, stress, stability, and opportunities for future generations. Through Summit Learning Institute, she develops human-centered learning experiences, strategic training, and practical tools that help individuals and organizations act with greater care, accountability, and alignment.

Dr. Allen-Harrison has taught at Mills College (now Mills at Northeastern University) and currently serves as a dissertation chair. She is also the co-founder of Leaders Innovators & Forward Thinkers of Tomorrow, a STEM education nonprofit. She is committed to leading with vision, purpose, and care as she educates, inspires, and empowers others to live and lead purposefully.

"Self-reflection and transparency are fundamental to personal and professional growth. I believe these two attributes propel us to transform into our best selves, ultimately enabling us to make a significant mark in the book of life."
